ENVIRONMENT INITIATIVES OF BRAHMA KUMARIS
Brahma Kumaris’ Campaigns & Projects for Environment
The concept of Universal Brotherhood, the idea of the New World of Peace, Prosperity & Happiness, the Purity of heart and mind in pure and serene natural surroundings would all be futile if we fail to ensure a sustainable ecological balance and a healthy environment. This notion is the crux of the Brahma Kumaris ideology. They believe that outer cleanliness is based on the inner purity and vice-versa. No wonder therefore that over the years they have successfully undertaken many a campaign for a pure and healthy environment so that we can ensure the purity of mind and soul.

Ecological Farming
Agriculture is the Cinderella of Indian economy. The world is talking about development and technological transformation for making human life economically and ergonomically more comfortable and safe. Good agricultural practices are the fountain head of all development & if ignored the root cause of all devastation. Today agriculture stands at the cross-roads.
Agro-chemicals including synthetic fertilizers have been used indiscriminately to enhance production per se without caring as to how they have been damaging the natural base comprising soil, water and biodiversity besides concerns of food quality, chemicals residues and the fragile ecosystem. Toxic residues on food products, vegetables and fruits have now become integral part of our diet afflicting many food borne ailments.
Farmers’ welfare is now rooted in healthy eco-web entailing sustainable Yogic Agriculture, neccesating partnering with Mother Nature for assuring safe, nutritious and affordable food security. The solutions lies in revisiting and complementing ancient Rajyoga Meditation and wisdom farming to resuscitate natural resource base in sustainable manner.
What is Sustainable Yogic Agriculture ?
Sustainable Yogic Agriculture or “sashwat yogic kheti” is a process that includes seed empowerment (through meditation), mind and heart development of the farmer (through meditation) and integrated organic farming (through cow products, crop rotation and integrated pest management). As farmers gain confidence, the impact they are able to have on their crops through meditation is enhanced.
Sustainable Yogic Agriculture (Shashwat Yogic Kheti)
An Initiative of Agriculture& Rural Development Wing of RERF
Yogic Farming involves till age practices, agronomical practices, plant nutrition management (e.g. biofertilisers, rearing of earth worms, bio composting etc) plant protection(biological control practices, organic pest repellents, integrated pest management etc).It integrates thought-based meditative practices with organic farming and farmers from the shocks of agro-chemical based agriculture.
Experiments on Power of Positive Mind i.e Rajayoga Meditation by the Agriculture and Rural Development Wing of RERF have evinced the power of meditation and pure feelings. These positive vibes are recognized by the plants, nature, microbes, fauna and flora culminating in ameliorating effects in production, quality and above all reduced cost of production.
Thousands of farmers have adopted Yogic Farming and are expected to usher in a new horizon in consonance with the rich traditions of India for welfare of farmers, farming and environment.
Rajyogi BK Shiva Jyoti explaining about Yogic Agriculture to the farmers in the village Narsipudi.
Yogic Agriculture Conference
Agriculture is one of the biggest and far reaching industries around the world, affecting every living being on the planet. Today’s agricultural practices, greatly influenced by the “Green Revolution,” have resulted in poorer food quality, inappropriate use of chemicals, a decrease in the health and wellbeing of farmers and an increase in their depression and suicide. Food prices have gone through the roof in recent years and food security and hunger are some of our world’s most pressing problems.
Experience:
Personal Experience of AVV.Satyanarayana Ex-Surpunch, Madavarayudupalem, Ex-MPTC, Kadium Mandal who practiced Shashwat Yogic Kheti in their farm and they have seen far better results than the usual, by implementing Shashwat Yogic Kheti. They gained much fruitful results in Madavarayudupalem village of Kadium Mandal.
World Environment Day
“What is Environment and what are the realistic steps to be taken to protect Environment? Let us ask some questions to ourselves!”
Are we looking for a happy life? Are we struggling to be a healthy person? Are we unable to avoid unhealthy atmospheres? Do we really care about ourselves? Wait& think! What are we giving to the outside world? Only waste products are making the environment unhealthy? Are we really doing anything beyond? Are we contributing what we cannot see?
Our “thoughts”, our pure and positive thoughts protect nature. Our feeling of brotherhood makes our nation strong. Understanding and accepting others makes our relationships better. Let’s just experience the real me within, on this world environmental day. Let us come together and take an oath to protect climate, nature and environment by maintaining our inner being, because when we create we radiate.
“What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another”
– Mahatma Gandhi
World Environment is on 5th June every year. People from more than 100 countries celebrate this day. Furthermore, the world environment day is run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Since the year 1973, above all the main purpose of celebrating this day was to spread awareness. The awareness was about the conservation of our environment.
On the eve of Celebration of World Environment Day in Rajahmundry under the guidance of Incharge of Brahma Kumaris Sis ter BK Hema, the above certificate was awarded by the United Nations Public Service, for the tireless Service of the Brahma Kumaris in UN Environment Fight to #BeatAirPollution.
Disaster Management Campaign
Rajyogi BK Bharat Bhushan Co-ordinator, Disaster Management Campaign, Dean of GSL Medical college, Rajahmundry and others.
Disaster Management:
According to the latest scientific news from the UN Climate and Bio Diversity Conferences, the planet is at the brink of collapse. Such a disaster can disrupt essential services such as water & food supplies, electricity, healthcare, sewage/garbage removal, transportation and communications. We all are aware about the time we are living in. Hence it makes sense to be prepared mentally and physically as best as possible.
During calamities and natural disasters the Brahma Kumaris have reached out to provide material and spiritual aid. Extensive aid and rehabilitation work have been done after the earthquake in Gujarat, the Tsunami in Tamil Nadu and Kerala and during floods in various parts of the country. The campaign on disaster awareness and its management was launched in Gujarat covering major industries, organized jointly sponsored by Gujarat Safety Council and Scientists & Engineers Wings of Brahma Kumaris. The campaign featured conducting seminars, demonstrations, pictorial exhibition depicting holistic dimensions of disaster management etc.
This campaign can be a support to the initiative of Govt. of India towards “Swachh Bharat” in fulfilling dream Of Mahatma Gandhi. Though Gandhiji has envisaged the cleanliness drive towards both Inner and outer dimensions of Cleanliness, Govt’s initiatives so far has been limited to Outer Cleanliness. In this respect our campaign troughs light on Cleaning of Inner Nature besides Outer Cleanliness.
Some of the topics may be:
- Harmony with Nature
- Cleanliness- Inside Out approach
- Holistic Cleanliness
- Think Clean , Think Green
- Steps for Clean India
- Making Cleanliness a Habit etc since this is a National Mission collaboration with Govt. Bodies, NGOs can be done. It is proposed to Launch the Event at State capitals
